April 1, 2000 MAGIC IN THE ROCKIES-2000 No Foolin’! It’s time to register for another Magic in the Rockies. This year’s convention is scheduled for September 8th, 9th, and 10th, where we’ve found a home, at the Fort Collins Marriott. One quick glance at the dazzling array of headliners, lecturers, and dealers, and you’ll be scrambling to fill out the enclosed registration card. With prices going up, up, up (bought any gasoline lately), it was inevitable that we’d have to raise the price of convention registration. (We were able to keep the room rates at the Marriott the same as last year.) Although there is a registration increase, we’re offering a special discount price if you take advantage of early registration. Register by May 1st, and you’ll get the same rate as last year. Magic in the Rockies begins on Friday morning with the Junior Showcase at the Lincoln Center at 10 AM. Any junior magicians under the age 18 who are interested in performing in this show should contact Ed Hurtubis. (The "unofficial" convention activities begin the night before, on Thursday evening. Join us in the lobby of the Marriott to schmooze with the convention headliners.) After the Junior Showcase, it’s back to the Marriott for the first convention lecture at 1:30 PM, Carolyn Metzger, "Stage Presence and Movement." The first headliner lecture is next at 3:00 PM, Barrie Richardson, author of the best-selling book, Theater of the Mind. Your first foray into the Dealers Room begins at 4:00 PM. Dinner will be served at 6 PM. After dinner you’ll enjoy the much-anticipated Headliner Cabaret Show. We’ve tweaked this year’s convention format as Friday evening will end with a very special two-hour event beginning at 10 PM. From England, "The Bob Read Experience." Do not miss this! Saturday morning opens with a lecture by Barry Schor, dealer room activity, and then Magic in the Rockies is proud to present the return of a legend in magic, none other than Johnny Thompson! After lunch, there are two more powerful lectures to finish the afternoon, IBM Gold Cups winner Oscar Munoz and a special teach-in workshop by Bob Read. We’ll let you loose for dinner on your own, but be sure to get to your reserved seat at the Lincoln Center by 7:30 PM for the gala Public Show. After the show, hurry back to the Marriott for several rooms of Close-up shows and an event, which has become a tradition at Magic in the Rockies, Bar Magic with Doc Eason & Eric Mead. As in the past, this year’s Bar Magic will no doubt offer some other "surprises." In addition, the Bar Magic will be smoke free! Sunday morning takes off with the junior lecture, hosted by Bob Sammons, followed by a convention highlight, the Headliner Close-up Show. You’ll still have plenty of time to make your favorite dealer’s day before the final headliner lecture. We searched long and hard for someone to "close the show" at this year’s Magic in the Rockies. That someone is Giovanni! MAGIC IN THE ROCKIES 2000, once again the Must See convention of the year! |
