Feb. Meeting

Wallets are used to carry all sorts of small items. They are also very personal items, so having something belonging to a spectator appear (for example) in the magician's wallet can be very strong magic, indeed. The topic for discusion / performance this month is Wallet Magic. The wallets in question can be any type, from gimmicked (Kaps, Himber, etc.), to non-gimmicked (so long as you can do something magical with it), to obscure (maybe a Nepalese Yak pouch containing magic healthy bells). Anything at all "wallet" related that you would like to perform or discuss, will do. The meeting will be at 7:30pm, Thursday, February 17th, in room 210 of the Colorado State Office Bldg. 3842 5. Mason St., Ft. Collins. See you there.

Upcoming Events & Stuff

The next planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 1st, 6:30 pm, at Coopersmith's in Old Town Ft. Collins. This is where we come up with these astonishing ideas for our monthly meetings. All members are welcome to attend this brainstorming session and we obviously need some kind of help (psychotherapy, perhaps?). please feel free to join us. Dinner is optional.

Thursday, March 16th is the date of our next regular meeting. The current working theme for this meeting is "B - Material" or "A work in progress". We'd ask people to perform and/or discuss a routine or effect that they're currently trying to perfect. There would also be a discussion of "how to practice". Now, having said that , there is a possibility that (because of scheduling conflicts with upcoming lectures) we may have to move the Money Magic contest (traditionally held in April) to the March meeting date. So be prepared, start practicing your money magic entry now.

As I mentioned, there are a couple of lectures on the horizon. Unfortunately, I dont' have exact dates pinned down just yet. David Groves (author of "Be a Street Magician") should be here in late March. Illusionist Jay Scott Berry will be in the area in early April. I will provide more detail ASAP.

Our librarian, Tim Pendergast, has been hard at work nuiking up a list of our book library holdings (no, I don't know if he's using the Dewy Decimal System). He has made this list available to all, on the PestoDigitators website (http://www.byrini.com/presto). Our website also lists ourvideo library, a calendar of events and lots of other neat information. For those of you without the dubious pleasure of Internet access (or if you just need more stacks of paper at home) a paper copy of the library list is available upon request. Simply contact me (Geoff Thompson) and I'll be happy to send you a copy.

One last thing. If you haven't yet paid your $15 annual club dues ($2 for associate membership), then now is the time to write the check and send it to our treasurer, Byron Ferguson [18875 W. 59th Place, Golden, CO., 80403]. if you have any questions about membership you can call him at (303) 277-0323, or ernail him at (byron@byrini.com). If we don't receive your dues by March you run the risk of being dropped from the mailing list.

January 2000

The New Year brought with it First Night, the City of Fort Collins' annual New Year's Eve family celebration. Large crowds anxiously awaited multiple shows by Ring 250 performers Lew (The Great Loudini) Wymisner, Ed (Mr. Magic) Hurtubis, Bob Blea, Alan Bryner, and Tim Pendergast.

Ring 250 has become an anticipated part of the celebration and we look forward to next year.

January 2000 Banquet

Next on our list of fun in January was the Presto-Digitators Annual Banquet. Alter a bit of socializing over drinks and dinner, the festivities began with an introduction of attendees. New officers were then installed as follows: Bob Blea,President; Lew Wymisner, Vice President: Larry Davis, Secretary; Byron Ferguson, Treasurer; Geoff Thompson, Newsletter Editor; Tim Pendergast, Sergeant at Arms. Tim was also presented with a "thank you" gift for all of his hard work over the past year as President. Thanks Tim!

This year's President, Bob Blea, reminded everybody about Magic in The Rockies 2000, our annual convention, scheduled for September 8, 9, and 10, in Fort Collins, Colorado. Bob told the audience he expected this year's convention to meet or exceed last year's. A tall order, indeed, since last year we had Tommy Wonder, Max Maven, Vito Lupo, Tom Mullica, Simon Aronson, and Howard Hale. We'll see, though.

The crowd mingles and has a good time!

MC Lew Wymisner kicks off the magic at our banquet with a dove pan bit!

On to the serious stuff at the Banquet... the magic. MC Lew Wymisner introduced Cody Landstrom who opened the show with a great torn and restored cigarette paper.

MC Lew Wymisner with the 'ol dots routine...
Bob Blea performed a funny color rope/knot routine thanks to the magic words, "Peanut Butter Sandwiches."
Dave Elstun, President of the Denver IBM Ring 131, Mile High Magicians, "ooh'd and aah'd" us with his pompom stick.

Mareema joined us from the Colorado Springs Prestidigitators Magic Club with a unique antique coffee urn effect which culminated in the production of a fantastic six-foot Rice's butterfly silk.

Ed Hurtubis then entertained by demonstrating his newest from Collector's Workshop, the Burmese Bells.

Next, a spectator's head was nearly lopped off with a power jigsaw by Tim Pendergast.

Byron Ferguson even convinced his wife Toni to help him with some special mind reading that turned into a typical married couple's argument but ended with an exceptional dollar bill serial number revelation.

Alan Bryner made us all laugh with his yellow bandana/banana.

The evening went out in a blaze of glory with a fire eating (literally flaming coals in the mouth) demonstration by Dr. Steven Thompson. All in attendance had a great time and a few new potential members weren't afraid to say they knew us a little better by the end of the night.

TVP THOUGHTS

As we begin a new month, there are several items that I wanted to share with you. For those folks who have access to the web, I wanted to let you know about the Presto-Digitators website,. One of the most useful pages is the Calendar. Not only can you check the calendar for magic events (meetings, lectures, and shows); but you can also add events. Let's make this a Colorado calendar. In addition, the IBM website is worth checking out. I would like to encourage all IBM members to complete the survey.

The biggest surprise this month is a book Not just any book, but a magic book. The Magic Show by Mark Setteducati and Anne Benkovitz is just that, a magic show in a hook There are twelve magic tricks in the book, and the book docs the magic for you. So if you want to be entertained by a book, get yourself a copy.

Please mark your calendars, for "Magic in the Rockies", Marriott, 350 East Horsetooth Road, Ft. Collins, CO 80525, September 8, 9, and 10, 2000.
